Trouble with Ticks in Cambridge

Ticks are still an increasing issue in Southern Ontario. They can transmit disease to humans as well as dogs and cats. In our own practice we have noted a decrease in ticks found on dogs due to the use of preventatives. We recommend that dogs and outdoor cats need to be on treatment from March to December (or easily year round). We also recommend yearly blood testing to assure that your dog is free of Lyme disease, Anaplasmosis and Ehrlichiosis. This same blood test for the tick borne disease we will test for Heartworm Diseases.

Heartworm Disease

This mosquito transmitted disease is very well controlled by monthly oral or topical preventatives for your dogs and outdoor cats. We recommend blood tests first for dogs, then monthly treatment from June to November. We do not routinely test cats (although there IS a test available) but we recommend monthly prevention medication (Revolution, Bravecto).
